Multi-disciplinary research methodology

DEFENSEFOOD employs a multi-disciplinary
research methodology to address the complex
challenges of CBR threats in food systems.

The three use cases (cereals, shellfish, and water) function as validation environments to:

  • Test AI-driven risk anticipation
  • Validate rapid CBR detection methods
  • Simulate impact mitigation strategies
  • Develop recovery and decision-support frameworks
  • Strengthen cross-sector preparedness
01
First Use Case

Cereal Supply Chain

Cereals are foundational to European and global food security. The EU produces approximately 300 million tonnes annually and is traditionally a net exporter.

02
Second Use Case

Shellfish Supply Chain

The shellfish industry is global, with significant cross-border trade.

03
Third Use case

Water Use

The water supply chain is increasingly affected by climate change, which intensifies challenges such as water scarcity, flooding, and pollution.
