About Syreon Research Institute
Syreon Research Institute is an independent, research-focused organisation. The Institute provides expert services in evidence synthesis, health economics, data analysis, modelling, and strategic and policy recommendations across the pharmaceutical, health services, and food and nutrition science sectors. Syreon’s Food and Nutrition Science research activities, led by Ákos Józwiak, focus on the health, safety, economic, social, and sustainability dimensions of food systems. Combining expertise in food safety risk assessment, modelling, public health policy, and capacity building with strong capabilities in data and knowledge management, and evidence-based decision-making, Syreon offers a unique multidisciplinary portfolio in the field. The Institute collaborates with public health institutes, academic networks, and industry partners worldwide and has published hundreds of scientific articles in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
Syreon Research Institute's role at DEFENSEFOOD
Within the project, Syreon Research Institute acts as scientific coordinator and leads research on risk prediction and shock anticipation in the food system. Building on strong expertise in evidence synthesis, food safety risk assessment, and data-driven analysis, Syreon coordinates the integration of multidisciplinary evidence to support horizon scanning and early warning of emerging risks. Syreon is responsible for mapping existing tools, data sources, and knowledge on food system threats, and for developing modelling approaches and decision-support tools that translate research findings into practical applications. By coordinating the scientific efforts of the consortium, Syreon ensures that project outputs are transformed into robust, science-based tools and best practices that strengthen the resilience, safety, and sustainability of the food chain.
